Arita ware originated in the 17th century, and is said to be Japan’s oldest type of porcelain. It spread both within and beyond Japan, crossing the sea to Europe where it captivated the nobility and formed the foundation for other famous pottery styles such as Meissen porcelain.
In this tour, you can experience this Japanese tradition by visiting the pottery studios whose craftsmen have kept it alive for 400 years. You will also visit sake breweries, ochoko cup in hand, amidst the old-fashioned streets of Arita. The sake here gets its excellent taste from water derived from immaculate natural sources, and from the rice farming techniques which use that water.
