Master the Art of the Samurai: Sword-Fighting Experience in a Traditional Tokyo Dojo

You will have the rare opportunity to visit a traditional Tate dojo in Tokyo, where sword-fighting techniques have been passed down for three generations. This unique experience allows participants to step into the world of the samurai and see firsthand how the iconic fight scenes from movies are created, all while practicing these techniques themselves.

The dojo has been involved in productions featuring stars such as Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai, Jean Reno in Wasabi, and most recently Hiroyuki Sanada in Shogun. Depending on the schedule, you may even have the opportunity to be instructed by the same teachers who worked on these renowned films.

Your journey into samurai culture starts with a respectful greeting at the Kamidana (Shinto altar), followed by lessons on how to properly hold and handle a katana, and the intricate etiquette involved. Participants will also wear traditional hakama and kimono, fully immersing themselves in this ancient art.

The two-hour session will fly by, offering an unforgettable experience and an insightful look into the precision, discipline, and artistry that go into crafting action scenes for the screen. This is more than just a lesson in swordplay—it’s an authentic dive into Japan’s cultural heritage.

Finally, you’ll have a commemorative photo taken.
